This figure shows "generic convection": a snapshot of convection in a uniform layer heated from below and cooled from above. Temperatures correspond to colors; red is hot, blue cold. The Rayleigh number is 1e7. Calculations were performed using ConMan (King et al, 1988).

Some of the current projects in mantle convection being pursued in my research group include:

Understanding how property changes in the lowermost mantle influence mantle convection
Models of a Hot Abyssal Layer in the deep mantle
