May 8, 1902 - Mount Pelée's erupts
A huge nuée ardente sweeps off the slopes of Mt. Pelée,
killing virtually everyone in St. Pierre (population 30,000).
The term nuée ardente (glowing/incandescent cloud) was first used to describe the pyroclastic flows resulting from the eruption of Mt. Pelée in 1902.
