February 26, 1919 - Grand Canyon National Park is established.
Prior to this date, the Grand Canyon had received Federal protection
as Grand Canyon Forest Reserve (1893), Grand Canyon Game Preserve (1906)
and Grand Canyon National Monument (1908).*

*The Senate twice introduced bills (in 1910 and 1911) to establish a Grand Canyon national park; but the bills were defeated.
