Welcome to the Geology Department's Virtual Picnic Day (where Picnic Day is virtually every day of the year!) Yes, thanks to the marvels of modern technology, you can enjoy Picnic Day in the comfort and privacy of your own home without all the crowds and dirt! Well...since it is the Geology Department, there's still dirt; but at least there aren't the crowds! Here you'll be able to relive (or experience for the first time) some of our past Picnic Days exhibits: visit our virtual field camp; meet our faculty; try on some shoes; see the latest in field fashions....you can even pick up a few cooking tips!
Our Picnic Day spirit lives on in these pages; so grab your favorite Picnic Day hat and join in the fun! |

Come poke around our virtual field camp and see what your friendly neighborhood geologist brings with him when he heads out into the field.
Well, they actually ALL belong in a geologist's shoe closet (didn't mean to trick you...just had that old Sesame Street song running through our minds) but they all have been worn in different places for different reasons. Sound intriguing? Come try on a pair and see if they fit!
Have you been aimlessly searching for that recipe for "Dead Animal Rollos"? Wondering how low a helicopter needs to be before oranges thrown out of it don't explode when they hit the ground? Curious about the culinary delights (and disasters!) that await the intrepid geologist in the field? Wait no longer (actually, since there is no link here, you will have to wait a bit longer), grab a dented plate and fork...it's chow time!
They can be a little camera shy, but we've managed to corner some of those elusive creatures known as "faculty" and gotten them to sit down and answer a few questions for our listening audience. Learn what evil forces drove them into their profession and what keeps them going... Meet the faculty in their native habitat! We hope you've had fun here at Virtual Picnic Day, and we hope that you'll be able to join us next year for the real thing. So until then, remember to have your rock hammer handy, an ample supply of Dinty Moore in the bear barrel, and always keep a little of that Picnic Day spirit close to your heart! Go Geo-Aggies! |
