Geology Alumni may remember taking one of the courses taught by former Geology Lecturer Rand Schaal. Rand is definitely a “home-grown” product, having received both his bachelor’s and doctoral degrees in Geology from UCD!

Bob Matthews helped establish an environmental geology program within the Geology department at UCD. Setting aside his own pursuit of a doctoral degree, Bob focused his energy on the program and teaching. After retiring in 1996, he completed his doctoral requirements and was awarded the Ph.D. that he began in 1968. To honor his contribution to the undergraduate life at UCD, one of the five original courts was named after Bob.
